Acumen Solutions Participates in Presidential United We Serve Initiative on 9/11/09 With Employee Field Service Day for DC Area Boys & Girls Clubs
Mid-Sized DC Area Tech Firm Contributes Over $100,000 of In-kind Services over Last 4 Months and $1 Million Over Last 10 Years of Service to the Community
Vienna, VA — September 11, 2009 – Acumen Solutions, a leading business and technology consulting firm, announced that it will hold an Employee Service Day today with the children served by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, Fairfax County Branches, where two of the company’s senior executives serve as volunteer board members. The Employee Service Day will include a barbecue with the children, a series of field day activities and games, and activities reflecting on the memory of lives lost on September 11, 2001. This event is organized in conjunction with the President and First Lady’s United We Serve initiative, a nationwide summer initiative focused on community service culminating on September 11, 2009 with a National Day of Service and Remembrance.
“At a time when many companies are giving less, we are proud to be giving more,” said David Joubran, CEO of Acumen Solutions. “The economic downturn has had its impact on charitable giving. Over half of the companies surveyed by the Conference Board in February reduced their 2009 charity budgets as a result of inadequate financial resources and declines in corporate foundation endowments. In addition, there is a well documented crisis of leadership in the non-profit sector. Acumen Solutions is at the forefront of companies leading the way in providing skills-based volunteerism, service days and senior executives’ time to serve on charity boards to fill in these gaps.”
In the last four months alone Acumen Solutions employees, working in small teams, collaborated with the leadership at three non-profits to help solve a business problem, donating 800 hours and more than $100,000 of in-kind services for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Alexandria-Olympic Branch, BUILD Metro DC, and Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Mid-Atlantic. Acumen Solutions created a marketing roadmap and communications plan for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Alexandria-Olympic Branch. They built a website for BUILD Metro DC which provided them with a local web presence and helped streamline processes. For the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, Inc. they provided a technology audit with an eye on environmental efficiencies which resulted in a restructure of their IT environment and uncovered a line item savings of $20,000.
“Acumen Solutions’ contribution to our local community far exceeds what is typically possible for a mid-sized company,” said Katherine Bradley, President of the CityBridge Foundation. “David Joubran has built a generous workforce, leading by example and providing unique community-based experiences for his staff. His Social Responsibility Program is a terrific example of effective corporate community engagement. Our region is well served by his leadership.”
Joubran added, “I am very proud of our employees who have supported over 100 initiatives and raised over $1 million for a broad range of non-profit over the last 10 years.“
Acumen Solutions has developed flexible ways to facilitate their employees’ support of non-profits. These include providing a community service day during the work week, utilizing consulting for skills-based projects and enabling senior executives to serve on local Charity Boards. Acumen Solutions will also sponsor another road race this year, The Race for a Cause™, (see details below.) to be held on November 1st in Arlington, Virginia. This race will benefit the charities that the company has supported throughout the year.
Employee Service days provide “hands-on” volunteer activities that all employees can participate in for worthwhile organizations in need. Employee Service Days conducted in the last six months include:
- BUILD Metro DC - spent 51 hours working directly with the students to help them write and edit their business plans before their final showcase, which is a prep day for the final business plan competition.
- Child & Family Network Center - provided 68 hours leveling a site for a shed and other tasks including constructing a storage shed, laying a stone walkway, general landscaping, etc.
- Montessori School of the Bay Area - volunteered 97 hours (a value of $12,000) to customize Salesforce.com’s Non-profit Edition to consolidate vast amounts of student, teacher, staff, parent, donation and fundraising data – all linked to custom reports to drive efficiencies and clearly track return on investment.
Employees in their New York, San Francisco, Washington DC and United Kingdom offices have rolled up their sleeves and contributed volunteer hours for local non-profit community organizations including conducting training interviews for Blind in Business in London, built & painted theatre stages at Wingspan Arts facility in New York City, and staffing outdoor carnival games for the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Francisco.
