E.L. Haynes Leads Consortium of 10 DC Public Charter Schools in a Pilot of SchoolForce™, Acumen Solutions New Student Data System

Washington, DC – January 31, 2012 – E.L. Haynes Public Charter School is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a $2.3 million Instructional Improvement Systems (IIS) grant through the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s Race to the Top (RTTT) program.  The IIS grant is designed to support schools that can develop technology that will equip teachers with student-level data, enable teachers and administrators to analyze student information, and use their unique expertise to target instructional materials and resources based on the collected data.  Key to the solution is that the schools own and have unlimited access to their own data.

With this support, E.L. Haynes is leading a consortium of 10 DC Public Charter Schools and working with Acumen Solutions to develop and deploy SchoolForce™, a school performance management and instructional improvement solution created by Acumen Solutions.  The consortium schools are piloting the use of the SchoolForce solution and leveraging the RTTT grant to develop new modules to meet the schools’ needs for a fully-integrated student data system.

“We are thrilled to be the recipient of this IIS grant, which will enable us to pilot SchoolForce in charters across DC.  SchoolForce is poised to transform the way schools have access to student data, and OSSE’s support stands to make a significant impact on education in DC beyond the life of the grant,” said Jennifer C. Niles, E.L. Haynes Founder and Head of School.

SchoolForce™ is a school performance management system that E.L. Haynes first piloted in 2011, which puts the student at the center of her or his education. Developed by DC-basedAcumen Solutions, a business and technology consultingfirm, SchoolForce enables schools and school districts for the first time to access state-of-the-art cloud computing technology, greatly enhancing their productivity while saving schools time and money. SchoolForce is the first enterprise class, Student Information System (SIS) and performance management solution that is built with an open approach on Salesforce.com’s Force.com platform.

SchoolForce is developed as a customized solution with a soon-to-be-delivered marketplace of education apps that can be deployed on-demand for each school or school district. SchoolForce integrates core Student Information System (SIS) modules such as: attendance, behavior, homework, student records, a Common Core compatible grade book, as well as collaboration, social media and document management – all of which can all be shared with parents, administrators, teachers, and students via a web portal. SchoolForce empowers teachers to easily track student attendance, behavior, and performance, to quickly and easily share lesson plans and best practices, and to collaborate on strategies to help struggling learners. It enables administrators need to be able to support teacher development, share grades and homework assignments with parents.
